Deposit Guarantee Scheme

Akbank N.V. is a solid Dutch Bank under supervision of the Dutch Central Bank (www.dnb.nl) and the Dutch Authority of Financial Markets (www.afm.nl). Akbank N.V. has a Dutch Banking License since November 2001 (see register - in Dutch).

The saving products (time deposits and saving accounts) which Akbank N.V. offers, are covered by the Dutch Guarantee Scheme. In October 2008 the Dutch Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance increased the guaranteed amount from EUR 38.000 to EUR 100.000 per accountholder per financial institution. Throughout Europe other Central Banks increased the maximum amounts covered by the local Deposit Guarantee Scheme.

As of 11-06-2009 EU countries are obliged (by EU directive) to offer a minimum guarantee of EUR 50.000 per accountholder per financial institution. In the same directive it is mentioned that as of 31-12-2010 EU countries are obliged to have a guarantee of EUR 100.000.

The Netherlands (Ministry of Finance) therefore decided (in June 2009) to remain at the level of 100.000 EUR.
